Beginning with important news of the week, Jinnie GC talks about the gym industry outcry on government's decision of keeping gyms closed while malls and other more 'risky' places open for business as the lockdown lifts gradually all over the nation. Social media is thronging with pictures of gym community people protesting against it as they are struggling for survival and need to get back to work before situation goes out of hand.
As lockdown is lifted all over the nation in parts, responsibility has now shifted from government and hospitals to the public. Now, there will be no enforcements from police and no one will be checking whether social distancing is being practiced or not that is why it is all the more important to keep ourselves fit, boost our immunity and keep indoors as much as possible on our own, ensuring social distancing ourselves. If we won't pay attention, may be we won't be left with any time to even repent or get someone to talk to later!

WHO celebrated World No-Tobacco Day on May 31, 2020. This day marks spreading awareness and conscience in the youth to stay away from smoking and tobacco in other forms. Tobacco companies have been manipulating youth into this deadly habit because of the alluring market they make for their goods. Our coming generations can be rendered almost 'useless' or even 'lifeless' because of this addiction. For us also, we cannot think of staying fit or living a dream life unless we stop and discourage smoking in any form, not to mention the rising cases of fatal lung cancer because of smoking. Let's make our world a better place with this small step - Quit Smoking! (Issued in Public Interest by Body and Strength)
In the webinar session this week, we had Delhi Gym Association members - Harmeet Luthra, Bhupendra Sharma, Puneet Nindra and Rita Jairath with us as speakers with whom Jinnie GC discussed gym industry concerns during lockdown. She rounded off her questions to the SOPs and progress towards association's proceedings with government on opening the gyms as the lockdown lifts.
Government considers gym as an isolated business and is not able to see that many other big revenue generating businesses are dependent on gym industry like equipment industry which generates about 2000cr of business and supplement industry which in fact generates triple the amount of equipment industry. Before financial crisis cripples all these massive economy boosters, government must allow gyms to open. Once they open all the safety measures will be taken as proposed by gym association on sanitizing, wearing mask and gloves, thermal checking and practicing social distancing.
The association informed that all SOPs are market accepted in addition to all the government guidelines if they want them to adhere, all gyms will. Once gyms are open, it will be member's prerogative to continue taking online sessions or coming for gym sessions. Gyms are anyway les risky than public travel mediums like buses, autos and airlines which are now open.
Even after lockdown is lifted, the industry will need government support in issuing guidelines where gym rentals are waived to specific amount for at least a few months alongwith GST relaxation so that the industry can get a window to cope with losses and get back on its feet in time.
Looking at Delhi Gym Association efforts, we hope that it works for whole of the gym and related industries in the long run. Watch the full episode to know all important insights.Fitness Weekly | Lockdown Files: Welfare
