Indian Powerlifting World champion Saksham Yadav passed away on Sunday eveningat 6.38 pm at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in New Delhi as he was in critical condition. Their car met with an accident at 4 am near the Singhu border in Alipur police station area in North-West Delhi.
He fought for his life in the hospital as he had severe head injuries but eventually succumbed to his injuries while four athletes accompanying him, all were national powerlifters, died on the spot. All six athletes were travelling from Delhi to Panipat after celebrating a birthday party of Rohit, one of the car accident victims, who is in the hospital.

The other four athletes who died in the car accident were identified by the police by their names Tikamchand, Saurabh, Yogesh and Harish Roy, a 20-year-old student. Saksham Yadav was a resident of Nangloi in North Delhi. All other athletes were residents of Timarpur in North Delhi.
Saksham Yadav won gold medal for India in Powerlifting World Championship held in Moscow in December 2017. Saksham had also won gold medal in junior category in 2016. With the accident, India has lost potential and promising powerlifters who represented and did nation proud of international platforms.
