Indian Powerlifting Team to Take on the World

All the powerlifting champions are ready to take on the world again in the Derby World Powerlifting Championship 2018.

Indian Powerlifting team under Coach Bhupender Dhawan is all set to represent India in World Powerlifting Championship being held in Derby, England from October 26 to 28, 2018. met all the powered up powerlifting athletes and mirrored into their sporting career and lives. Since training is the most important part of their lives Coach Bhupender Dhawan (conferred with the title Dronacharya in the year 2000 and International Hall of Fame in 2017) answered our questions on when they start training and what is things are the most important to take care of when they are going out to represent their country on an international competing platform.

He said that athletes start training 6 months in advance targeting for the upcoming competition. Athletes train 2 to 3 hours daily and Sunday is the rest day. Their basic diet is rich in required quantity of carbohydrates, fat and proteins. Apart from all the training it is most important to keep focused, disciplined and not to get intimidated by other competitors, keep the sporting spirit up and believe in yourself and your capabilities. met the extremely dedicated team of powerlifting and here we are listing out the names and some of the details related to them:

  1. Mukesh Singh (Captain): He belongs to Delhi and has been 2 times world champion and has won 4 times European championship. He has won Olympia gold medal in 2017 and brought a bronze home in 2018. Mukesh started off his career as a bodybuilder and has several titles in it, he later shifted to powerlifting and has been competing as a powerlifter since the year 2012. He inspires rest of the team with his steady support. He takes his first meal early morning. After training his diet constitutes chicken (at least 200 grams) with rice and salads. He takes 4 to 6 meals in a day.
  2. Surender Singh: He is a player and has been Mr. India 2007 and All India Gold Medalist in bodybuilding. He then switched to powerlifting later. In powerlifting he has won European championships and has won 3 gold medals in Germany in 2018. His diet also is rich in chicken, eggs, dry fruits, etc.
  3. Rajat Goel: He has been training earlier but has got into powerlifting sports formally since past four years. He has won European Powerlifting Championships in 2017 and 2018 bringing Gold back home. He has been world champion in powerlifting in 2017, Muscle Mania Men’s Physique Gold Medal winner in 2015. He was a Men’s Physique Athlete before entering into powerlifting in 2017. His diet is rich in macro nutrients – proteins and carbohydrates, etc.
  4. Bheem Singh: He is from Delhi. He has won European Championship in 2017 and 2018, and has been Mr. Universe in 2017. He also has been 4 times National Champion in powerlifting sport and has been into the industry from past 9 years.
  5. Prabjeet Singh Bakshi: He is also a Delhite and has been into powerlifting sport from past 4 years. He has been World Powerlifting Champion in 2017. When asked about his diet, it is similar to all other competing powerlifting athletes, just that he cannot do without chicken in his meals.
  6. Rahul Dhawan: He is the Assistant Technical Manager and he coordinates the logistics, stay and commuting administration for whole of the team outside India which is a crucial task.

Two more important team members who play an important role in this powerlifting team effort are Kanwarjeet Singh Rabara and Vishal Arora. All these athletes have been conferred with international and national titles earlier and now the team is aiming to take on the world yet again in the Derby World Powerlifting Championship 2018.
