At 23rd Asian Athletics Championship in Doha India bagged 5 medals including 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. On the first day of Asian Athletics Championship team India managed to open its medal count.

On the first day of Asian Athletics Championship team India managed to open its medal count.

Dutee Chand broke her own national record to qualify for the women’s 100 m semi-finals. She became the fastest qualifier in Doha as she clocked 11.28s.

The star of athletics Neeraj Chopra is not participating in the event as he sprained his elbow during practice session in Patiala. Other biggest names of athletics Dharun Ayyasamy (Men’s 400m Hurdle), M Sreeshankar (Men’s Long Jump) and Manjit Singh (Asian Gold Medalist 800m) are not included in the team because of injuries.

Annu Rani bagged silver medal in women’s javelin throw and Parul Chaudhary bagged a bronze medal in Women’s 500m race. Avinash Sable won a silver medal in men’s 3000m steeplechase and Gavit Murali Kumar bagged bronze medal of the country in the 10,000m.

MR Poovamma qualifies for the women’s 400m final, placing second behind SalwaNaser of Bahrain. She clocked 52.46s while Salwa Naser won the heats in 52.29. 

GomathiMarimuthu finished second in her 800m heats in 2:04.96 and Jinson Johnson finished second in the men’s 800m.

Asian Gold medallist TajinderToor Singh’s coach Mohinder Singh Dhillon received best Asian coach of the year award- AAA Gala Awards in Doha.

People were concerned for Hima Das as the Sprint sensation suffered from a lower back pain while running her quartermile event.

India were on the fifth place in the medal tally with five medal. Bahrain lead the table (7 medals), China is on second (5 medals) and Iran is on third place (2 medals).
