DDA Finally Proposes Amendments in Master Plan 2021: Relief for Gyms

In a relief to gyms’ and fitness centres’ owners in the capital, on Wednesday, Delhi Development Authority has proposed new regulations allowing them to operate from residential areas.

Following the furor on the  Supreme Court-appointed committee’s orders of sealing of gyms which came up after August 2008, Union Minister declared that a proposition in Master Plan 2021 will be made for inclusion of gyms, yoga centres and fitness centres. However, the action of DDA in this regard was awaited. This wait is finally over and recently, DDA has proposed operations of gyms, yoga centres and fitness centres in areas of residence.

In a meeting headed by Lieutenant Governer, Anil Baijal, DDA has finally proposed the amendments to Master Plan 2021 according to which all gyms, yoga and fitness centres in residential areas should be included. 

DDA Vice-Chairperson Tarun Kapoor, however, stated that fitness centres which are yet to come up will be allowed to operate from the ground floor and basement only.
