2nd Khelo India Youth Games 2019

~ Haryana defeats Jharkhand 3-0 in Final while Punjab takes the Bronze Medal with a 2-1 win over Odisha ~

The second edition of Khelo India Youth Games concluded on Sunday at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Pune in the presence of Union Minister of Human Resource Development, PrakashJavadekar.

The aim of Khelo Youth India is to promote culture of Sports and Excellence in Sports.

Host Maharashtra walked away with the glittering overall trophy and also topped the list by winning a total of 228 medals including 85 gold medals.

PrakashJavadekar, Union Minister of Human Resource development presented the trophies and announced that the government was determined to bring one hour of sports daily for students in all schools across the country.

Director General of Sports Authority of India, NeelamKapur welcomed the dignitaries present on the occasion and expressed the gratitude for the tremendous efforts of the government and the volunteers who have made the event so successful.

In the final match of the event Haryana produce a fantastic performance as they defeated Jharkhand 3-0 to win the Gold Medal. While, in the match for the Bronze Medal, it was Punjab who defeated Odisha 2-1 to end their campaign on a positive note.

The Final match saw Haryana produce an efficient performance as they defeated Jharkhand 3-0. The goals for Haryana came in the first three quarters and set the tone for them to secure the Gold Medal. The first goal came in the 10th minute through MahimaChoudhary, while AmandeepKaur scored the second for her team in the 23rd minute to make it 2-0. In the 35th minute, it was AmrinderKaur who also got her name on the score-sheet to help her team take a 3-0 lead, which Haryana managed to protect during the remaining minutes and secure the important win.

In the Bronze Medal match, it was Punjab who secured the victory as they overcame Odisha by a margin of 2-1. The match was a closely contested one, where it was Odisha who took the lead in the 18th minute as RojitaKujur scored for them. However, Punjab was quick to respond and levelled the scores in the 28th minute when Kajal scored a field-goal for them. With the scores tied at 1-1, both the teams looked to find the opportunity to score the winner, but it was only in the last quarter that Punjab managed to find the winner when Kajal scored again in the 51st minute. The second goal for Punjab was enough for them to secure the Bronze Medal as they defended well to see out the match.

Hockey Patiala won 9th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2019 (B Division)

~ Hockey Patiala beat Namdhari XI 4-3 in Penalty Shootout in the Final ~

~Punjab National Bank beat Bengaluru Hockey Association 1-0 in 3rd-4th place match ~ 

The Final match of the 9th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2019 (B Division) took place at Jabalpur on Sunday which saw Hockey Patiala defeat Namdhari XI 4-3 in the Penalty Shootout after scores were tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time, to win the competition. Whereas, in the match for the 3rd/4th Punjab National Bank defeated Bengaluru Hockey Association 1-0 to finish third in the competition.

The Final match saw Hockey Patiala concede the first goal of the match as Namdhari XI scored in the 12th minute through Hanspal Singh to take an important lead. However, Hockey Patiala's efforts in the third quarter saw them being awarded a Penalty Stroke, which was converted by Aman Thakur in the 34th minute to put the scores level at 1-1. Both the teams tried their best to find the winner, but the match had to be decided through a Penalty Shootout. It was Hockey Patiala's Rahul, Jaswinder Singh, Gurveer Singh and Gurshahzad Singh, who scored in the Shootout to secure the victory in the competition. Namdhari XI's Rajinder Singh, Hardeep Singh and Hanspal Singh converted for their team in vain.

Earlier in the day, in the match for the 3rd/4th position, it was Punjab National Bank who overcame Bengaluru Hockey Association by a margin of 1-0 to end their campaign on a good note. The only goal of the match came in the 19th minute when Punjab National Bank's Naveen Narwal scored a field goal to put his team in a strong position. The goal proved to be the difference as Punjab National Bank defended their lead well to secure the third place in the competition.

3.Indian Wrestler VineshPhogat created History

Superstar of wrestling VineshPhogat is the first Indian to be nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards. The Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual award ceremony honouring individuals and teams from the world of sports along with sporting achievements throughout the year. 

Vinesh had an amazing 2018 in which she won gold at the Commomwealth Games, a silver in Asian Championship, 2018 and a gold medal at the Asian Games at Jakarta.

It’s not an easy thing for an athlete but she made her sensational comeback after her knee injury and made her mark in the field of wrestling once again.

These are the other nominated athletes for Laureus Sports Award Golf great player Tiger Woods, Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris, American ski racer Lindsey Vonn, Japanese figure skater YuzuruManyu and Dutch para-snowboarding star BibianMentel-Spee.

The last time India got nomination for Laureus Sports Award was in 2004 when the Indian Cricket Team and Pakistan Cricket Team shared the Laureus Sports for good Award for playing an International match despite political tensions between the two countries.
